“Providing seamless interconnect between VoIP end points, the carrier grade RTP Proxy enables scalable network hiding and NAT/PAT translation.”

RTP Proxy Overview

The SVI_RTP Proxy provides :-

  • NAT/PAT translation allows for public to private address translation.
  • Network topology hiding allowing endpoint IP addresses to be hidden from their IP destination.
  • No decompression/compression of RTP/RTCP packets
  • Real-time set-up via MGCP
  • Support for any codec

RTP Proxy Router

The SVI_RTP Proxy Router allows for the dynamic real time configuration of UDP routing between IP networks. This functionality is shown in figure 1, showing a UDP packet from VoIP End Point A being routed to End point B with both IP and Port translation taking place.

The RTP proxy router is controlled via the MGCP protocol over UDP using DNS routing to set up NAT style translations allowing for the routing and alteration of UDP parameters. This provides a seamless interconnect between VoIP end points if direct communication is not possible between these two end points.

RTP Proxy Functionality

Configuration

The RTP Proxy Router provides a simple ASCII test based configuration file that is resident on the router allowing for the set-up of the unit. Configuration options include maximum number of allowable UDP ports, port selection range and protected ports.

Remote Configuration

The RTP Proxy Router provides a telnet and SSH port allowing for remote management of the system. SNMP is provided to allow for the routers to be integrated into an existing SNMP powered management system.

Redundancy

Using MGCP to control the set-up of the routing tables provides inherent redundancy if a failure occurs to a single system. This enables the provision ofan (N+1) redundancy architecture ensuring carrier grade installations.

Performance

The RTP Proxy Router allows for a maximum of 500 simultaneous G711 ports to be configured. To increase the number of simultaneous calls within a system, additional routers can be added in real time allowing for the growth of a system when capacity is required.
